A Guide to Information Resources for Belarus

A Guide, PDF-version

Dear Colleagues in Belarus,
I am very pleased to welcome you all to the Programme for the Enhancement of Research Information (PERI). If you are not familiar with this programme, it is a programme of INASP (the International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications), designed to enhance access to and use of learned information resources online, in developing and transitional countries.

An important component of the PERI programme is the facilitation of access to international online resources, through the use of country-wide licenses. PERI has secured licenses with a range of Publishers of learned content online and has limited funding (from INTAS) to help Libraries and Research Institutes within Belarus gain access to this content.

I am very pleased therefore to attach our Guide to Information Resources for Belarus. This document describes the resources presently available through PERI (and through other sources) to colleagues in Belarus. PERI is working with a Country Coordinator for Belarus, Ms. Julia Asinimova of the European Humanities University in Minsk.

Libraries and research Institutes are encouraged to consider the resources available through PERI and make their requirements known to these colleagues who will communicate them on to PERI. Because of the limited funding available (ca. 30,000 Euros for each of the years 2002, 2003 and 2004) discussion and collaboration is strongly encouraged to ensure the best use of funds.

Please take a look through the document to see the resources presently available through PERI. You should then contact Ms. Julia Asinimova letting them know the resources you need. As requirements are defined and agreed, we will notify you so that you can register your Institute for access. The process of registration differs for each publisher but the attached document tells you what to do in each case -- please therefore retain it for future reference.

PERI is able to work with all not-for-profit research institutes and libraries in Belarus so please feel free to forward this email to as many of your colleagues as you see fit. It is our ambition to make the programme as broad and inclusive as possible.

I will continue my work with a further range of publishers encouraging them to get involved in the PERI programme. If there are any resources not presently available within the programme that you would like access to, please let me know and I will endeavour to make contact with the appropriate publisher.

If you have any other questions about PERI or INASP, please contact me. On behalf of INASP, we look forward to working with as many Institutes in Belarus as possible, facilitating access to as many required resources as possible.

Sincerely
Sarah Durrant
