The Center for Civic Education was founded in 1997 with advice and support
from the Center for Civic Education at Calabasas, USA, the American Council for
International Education and the German Fund for Technical Assistance.
The overarching goal of the EHU’s Center for Civic Education is strengthening
civil society in the Republic of Belarus. The Center pursues this goal while working
in two directions:
• Training of qualified cadres for the Belarusian
Third Sector and
• Civic Education in the Secondary School.

 |
The Center provides educational and informational support to the Third Sector
through different types of educational programs in Public Administration for representatives
of non-governmental non-profit organizations. These programs in NGO management
were designed in cooperation with Jackson State University, USA; one of the greatest
achievements resulted from this cooperation is the unique master degree program
in management of non-profit organizations, started in 2001.
The Center makes efforts in integrating civics into the secondary school curriculum.
It is accomplished through fostering research activities, developing teaching
materials and their publication, and carrying out seminars and permanent educational
retraining programs for high school teachers.
