The Center for Gender Studies was started in October 1997 with the support
from The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. It aims at teaching, researching
and preparing conditions for the academic discourse of gender theory and gender
problems in post-Soviet society. In 2000-2001 Center for Gender Studies launched
the first master's program on Gender Studies in the former Soviet Union. In July
2001 the first graduates of the MA Program at the EHU received master's degrees.
