Project Description:

The project is focused on the development of interdisciplinary scholarship in the field of Cultural and Visual Studies and exploration of various methodologies (such as semiotics, Film Studies, Feminist Theory, psychoanalysis, etc.) for the analysis of contemporary visual culture (be it TV, cinema, public art, advertising, visual arts or Net-culture). The project's aim is to encourage the introduction of new courses related to Cultural/Visual Studies into the University curricula (for the students of Depts. of Culturology, Film- and Art Theory, Philosophy, Sociology and History) with the application of multimedia technologies, and to provide incentives for interdisciplinary and international co-operation amongst academics from the region.

Academic standing/level/prerequisites:
young faculty, at pre- or postdoctoral level (kandidatskaya) , or
professionals (teaching at the Universities as part-time lecturers)

Other criteria:
participants must have sufficient English language ability to participate in discussions and use resource materials;
every participant is expected to make at least one presentation at one of Summer Sessions or intersession workshops;
preference will be given to those applicants who combine scholarly and teaching activity with work in mass media or visual arts projects.

Applicants must submit the following materials (either in electronic form or in hardcopy):

CV (with the list of publications)

an essay with the applicant's statement of purpose (2-3 pages)

writing sample (5-10 pages article published in Russian, English, French or German language) or program of a course taught at University in the field of Cultural/Visual Studies or a copy of video-, film-, CD-ROM related to the Project theme and designed either for students or for a larger audience.
